You're right, this can be done in 10 minutes. 9 minutes figuring out I was standing in the wrong place and 1 minute actually solve n grab! It didn't help that my GPSr was basically going bonkers with the London Effect.
OK So I found Mr Dickens and indeed on either side of Mr Dickens were 2 plaques, so there I was trying to relate the clues to the plaques and it dawned on me, maybe I'm not supposed to be looking here. Then I went and stood in front of the office(?) entrance pondering the 2 plaques here, but still no number overhead - as I was pondering I was approached by a security guard who enquired as to my well-being and I said "I'm find thankyou." Then I had an "ah ha" moment and headed to the right place.
Once there, easy solve and once I had the coords I was struck with a bit a panto feeling. Quickly found the cache, but the logs were just too wet to sign, so I took a photo of the cache to verify I got my grubby mits on it (not a spoiler image I promise).

GC1Z2NK: Gates To The Charterhouse

Last one before hitting Farringdon Tube Station and jumping on the Met line to go home to Watford... or so I thought. When the tube finally got to Moor Park the driver informed us that it was changing and going to Rickmansworth instead.... every single passenger got off and an empty train went to Rickmansworth! Can you believe that? I was so ticked, it was so bloody cold too! Then, 5 minutes later another Rickmansworth-bound train turned up... what about us Watford folk eh?!
Anyway this was a tricky little blighter. As I arrived at GZ my GPSr sighed and gave up the ghost. I looked at these gates and I thought "Great this nano could be anywhere!" After about 5 minutes searching I leaned against the wall to consult my Cacheberry again, I just so happened to peer up and there it was!
One of the magnets seems to have disappeared, it still has attraction but it's weak. TFTC!

Good grief look at the size of that window! I think I've seen bigger elsewhere but still impressive. Didn't get to go in the church as I did this one after work.
There were a lot of lurkers around in cars, presumably waiting for partners/spouses but kept beeping their horns for some reason. Thankfully the cache is tucked out the way below street level, so I was able to meander down taking an interest in the church infoboard and such then sitting and looking like I was organising my bag for a quick and easy grab.

Geocaching Statistics
A little while ago I discovered www.itsnotaboutthenumbers.com and was using their embedded html on my profile page. It's a fine web based tool but I've recently come across something cooler which provides even more details - and the best thing about it is it's cross-platform including Linux.
GCStatistics from MacDefender is a tool which you download to your desktop. Once you open it there is a button to automatically log into geocaching.com and order your 'My Finds' pocket query (limited to 7 days). When you get the email you then load the gpx/zip into GCStatistics and select the criteria you want to create statistical charts on all your finds.
You can then export to html, but you don't even have to switch to your browser and log in, GCStatistics will let you click another button to automatically upload the generated stats to your profile page.
I'm pretty impressed with this tool so I think I'm going to keep using it for the meantime. The stats are mainly for my benefit, there's really no way of competing in Geocaching since a lot of people have been at it a long time, but I don't have a problem with others seeing what we've been up to.

Egosurfing
Happy New Year!
Hey I got a new domain: www.wafitz.net. I haven't done anything with it yet but I intend to start moving 'operations' over there. This blog, maybe a static webcam, geocaching related stuff. And I'm working on a weekly(?) podcast with my brother in law - we're just ironing out the technicalities.
Speaking of domains and online activity. Ever since I did my first egosurf (way back when we were all surfing web 1.0 with 56k dialup, Google was a sound a baby would make, email was the fastest way to communicate and AOL was a formidable giant of the web) this website is what drew in the top results. The image of the little girl has been "picture of the week" for the last 300 weeks. The whole website has never changed since it's been up and yet it still gets significant ranking when I google my name.
Of all the daft forum posts, stupid blogs and other nonsense I've done online, I'd rather anyone see those than to mistake fitzweb.org for one of my achievements. I am probably not helping by linking to it, it's probably bad form to even discuss it like this, but it's something that's bothered and haunted me for years so I felt maybe it's time to clear up any confusion.

GC1HA7W: Motorway Mayhem - Deja Vu

This cache marks the end of a months caching drought for us! I don't know what it is about Christmas but things just get busy and before you know it you're gorging yourself on roast dinner with turkey and Terry's chocolate oranges.
We did this on a drive back through Corley to my mums house in Bedworth. Good location for a quick Cn'D, also had 2 TBs but sadly due to the small size of the container they wouldn't fit in.

After the muddy adventure of the last cache (Seeswood Search GC2103E) I was just barely able to convince Mrs Fitz to stop for this last one to make it #200. As we parked on the grass opposite I asked her if she wanted to search with me and she replied rather sullenly only if I looked up the hint before we got out the car.
Well, it was quite an adventure making our way across the road in the dark I can tell you - we really had to concentrate on listening for cars as well as looking out for the tell-tale headlights. Took a while to search for this one in the dark as the coords were a bit fuzzy and seemed to point to the log that looks like a bench out front. I let the wife search the location whilst I was looking elsewhere but her normally sharp geosense had failed her on this occasion and I found it when she moved over and let me get in.
